ARCHÉOFORUM (LIEGE)The Archéoforum, beneath the Place Saint-Lambert, offers a visit to the remains exposed during a series of archaeological excavations between 1907 and the present day. The true "historical heart" of the city, the Place has yielded the traces of nearly 9000 years of history. From the concrete entrance point on the îlot Tivoli, a reminder of the major works around the Place Saint-Lambert, to the gift and book shop, passing through the crypt dedicated to Saint-Lambert and the remains of the Vieux Marché, the visitor travels through ten scenographic settings each with its own different audio-visual atmosphere. A moving encounter with the history and splendour of the "Cité Ardente" from its origins to our own times. The site can only be visited accompanied by a specialist guide. |

LOGNE FORTRESS MUSEUM (VIEUXVILLE)At the foot of the ruins, in a superb 16th century farm, you will discover the Lords of the manors and the mercenaries who witnessed the destruction of the castle in 1521. MEDIEVAL RUINS OF POILVACHE (FORMER MERAUDE) (YVOIR)Poilvache (13th-15th c.) is one of the vasted medieval castles of the Middle Meuse (2,5 ha). It was the scene of famous sieges such as the one of 1238 in which Bishop Jean d'Eppes died, or the one of 1430, when the castle was destroyed. The grand and picturesque ruins appealed for a long time the verve and imagination of poets and literary men. Many legends are connected and the spreading of them is favoured by the large pieces of darkness that surround its origins. Bought by the State in 1968 and converted into a Natural Reserve in 1976, Poilvache is again open to the public and forms since 1992 part of the "Patrimoine majeur de la Région Wallonne" (Major Heritage of the Walloon Region). |
MEGALITH MUSEUM AND FIELD AND EXHIBITION CENTRE OF WERIS (WERIS)Considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Wallonia, Wéris has enjoyed an action-packed history. This charming little village in the Durbuy district boasts a fascinating prehistorical site with a megalithic field more than 8 kilometres long. Here menhirs and dolmens over 5,000 years old form an alignment that is unique to Belgium. Information on the civilisation that built the dolmens are available to walkers at the Museum of the Megaliths. A trail also takes them to places where the legends of the Pas-Bayard (Bayard pass), of the Pierre Haina (Haina stone) and the Lit du Diable (Devil's Bed) originated. From Easter to All Saints' Day, the Exhibition Centre proposes each year a new temporary exhibition. |

RAMIOUL PREHISTOSITE - RAMIOUL CAVE (FLEMALLE)Awaken your prehistoric self on the prehistosite of Ramioul and go on an extraordinary journey through time at the Interactive Museum of Prehistory in Wallonia. Discover our ancestors' gestures with an archaeologist and learn among others how they made fire. Become a prehistoric hunter and explore the woods of Ramioul with a bow or throwing stick on the look-out for animals that used to live in our regions (3D-targets). THE FAMENNE MUSEUM (MARCHE-EN-FAMENNE)Located in a superb 18th century house, the Famenne Museum is a place full of memories, emotions and respect. It broaches themes from the prehistory to modern art! The Merovingian and Carolingian periods are illustrated by means of a remarkable collection found during excavations in Wellin and Hamoir. The Museum pays tribute to the Mâitre de Waha, a famous late gothic sculptor. One space is dedicated to the Famenne and March and tells us about the geological and historical characteristics of the region and about the history of the city. One room is dedicated to the Monument, a 17th century sanctuary. The old professions, as well as modern and contemporary art are described as well. |
